Vintage Moroccan Zemmour Kilim (c1945 – 1975)
Dimensions: 7’9” x 13’1” (230 x 400 cms)
This kilim was woven ~50 - 80 years ago by Amazigh (Berber) women of the Zemmour tribal region, located between Khemisset and Tiflet in the Middle Atlas foothills. The design features repeating diamond lozenges and hooked motifs, representing protection, lineage, and the continuity of family life.
The limited palette of deep indigo and natural undyed wool reflects the use of locally sourced materials and plant-based dyes. Traditionally, such textiles formed part of a woman’s dowry and were used in both everyday and ceremonial domestic settings.
